Are you talking about a remote flash - I call mine my "out riggers".
I use slave flash. That means they use the light of your main flash to trigger. The ones I have are available at Ritz, if that's what you're looking for and they're not bad - about $35 each. But you must have tripods for them as well. Oh, if that's your interest, always use two, one on each side - it evens out the light.

But there's a trick to these things with digital cameras. If you want to discuss you can reach me through my profile.
Good Luck - Jim

The connection is in the hotshoe.
Set your camera mode to manual and the shutter speed at under 1/200th second and let the camera do the rest

From the tenor of your question, you have not taken a class in photography and do not know how to use a fully adjustable camera. At least one class will give you the skills necessary to use your fine camera

You need a pc link, but you rebel probably does not have a pc port. so what you need to get (if you don't want to spend a lot o money on wirelesss equipment) is a hotshoe to pc connector. This is a little box you connect onto your hotshoe and will have a pc connector on it. then you need a pc cable! You can go wireless using things like pocket wizards, but they cost a lot of money!

so all-in-all, you need a hotshoe to pc connector and your sync chord. and ur set :D
happy shooting~

Yes, in several ways.
To use a PC cord with the camera, you need something like the Nikon AS-15 PC socket to hotshoe adapter. Don't worry about the Nikon name, I have one I use on a 30D. About $20, sits in the hot shoe, provides a PC socket. Plug in and go!

I would recommend radio slaves myself, either cheap ones off Ebay (I have a set, 1 Tx and 3 Rx, works like a charm) or Pocket Wizards.
If you are in a studio and there are no other cameras in the area, you can use the strobe's built-in optical slave as a trigger. Not my preferred method for a number of reasons, but it works for some people.
