The Rebel (and generally the EOS line) all use EF lenses, the same as all the new digital cameras from Canon.
So if you can mount your lens onto your EOS Rebel XS Film, you'll be able to mount it on any new digital Rebel, 10D-50D, 5D mk1/2, 1D(s)(mk1-3), etc. And if you want on their 1V film body too.

All EOS cameras use the EF-Mount. So yes, if you buy a new Canon DSLR, you'll be able to continue using lenses for your Rebel, The switch from FD to EF-mount happened way back in 1987. Canon started the EOS system that year but, it would be years before they introduced the Rebel series of cameras.
