Yes you can, but you need to be sure the repair shop is of good quality - bad shops could potentially ruin your camera. I would check with either the store you boughht/buy your camera from, to find a good repair shop in your area (or online.)

I was in my local repair shop yesterday talking to the owner about this.
As others have said, you can definitely repair shutters. I shoot a 40D so I was particularly curious about the XXD models. He said the 40/50D models will run just under $200 for parts and labor. Rebel series will come in a little lower and the 5D/1D models are around $400 (the shutter on the pro models are around $200 alone. Then there's labor on top of that).

Of course you can. Usually though, it will cost alot and won't be worth paying for the repair if you've got a lower end dslr like the xti, xsi, xs ect. Canon's service center in New Jersey or California can repair it for you. Just because theres a shutter count life on the camera doesn't mean it will stop working when you take 50,000 shots, it just means what the camera was designed to survive up to. It will certainly survive for much longer if you take care of it.
