How Fast Will A New Canon Dslr Wear Out?

I just ordered one, and I know that when it arrives, I’ll take probably over a thousand pictures the first month since I’ve never had a dslr before. It’s a Rebel xs. What is the average life span of a camera like that under moderate to heavy use?

    How heavy is “heavy”?
I’d normally say what fhotoace said, but I have personally seen more than one Rebel XS broke down within months, and it’s just this particular model.
Two friend of mine who own this camera has the same problem: Electronic circuit failure. One “abuses” his camera, circuit failure at around 45,000 shutter actuation (within months, don’t ask how, I don’t know); The other had it for days and it failed to switch on, probably a dud.
But then, Canon fix them up real fast, so don’t worry about it.

Entry-level cameras like the XS are generally rated for 50,000 shots. You won’t get exactly that, but it should be somewhere in that ballpark. That being said, that’s the life of the shutter. If you really wanted to you could get it replaced after it wears out and will still be able to use the camera. The electronics themselves have no moving parts so they should last a very, very long time.

I took 2,413 photos for this party–this was a long time ago. The camera is still working fine.

You will probably be replacing the Rebel XS with a newer, higher tech camera long before the camera wears out.
Most users of DSLR’s upgrade within four to five years after buying their first DSLR.
If you need more assurance, my over 7 year old Nikon D100 has over 200,000 shutter cycles on it and it is still working just fine.

you’ll probably change your camera long before it actually wears out. most dslrs are made with top materials, so not unless you drop it, it’ll be fine.
