This is too easy. I wonder why someone sophisticated enough to own a DSLR would need to ask this.
Just put the memory card that you already have and do the math. We are assuming that you are shooting RAW + some version of JPEG.

My nikon D80, w/2GB lexar professional SD card will hold 168 .nef/raw files at ISO100, and that's 10MP full image size. That should give you some idea.

The XTi's Raw files are around 9.8MB each, so you will be able to shoot 100 images per 1GB.
You also have the option to save in Raw +JPEG which will raise your file size to over 13MB. This is not a bad option to use because you can save your images in Raw (and plan to post-process later) but also have the instant usability of an identical JPEG image.
Make sure you format the card before use.
happy shooting...

They differ at different ISOs. The Lower the ISO the more space it takes. Although the higher ISOs dont make too great of a difference. At 100 ISO a 2 gig card would TYPICALLY hold 200 shots.
Memory cards are cheap, get a few when you see them on sale. And I would advise getting a quality brand name one. I say this even though I have only had Lexar Pro series, I have heard of problems with the sandisk ones. I have never encountered a problem.
By the way I pulled out my XTi and put in the 2 gig card and it said it had space for 200 more shots. I say this just to tell you where I reference it from.
