How Much Is A Lense Hood For A Dslr Camara?

I ve just recently bought a dslr camara and also wondering do i really need one?

    You buy a lens hood to fit a particular lens. So if you have an 18-55mm lens you’d buy the lens hood made for it. If you have a 70-200mm lens buy the lens hood made for it. A lens hood is mainly used to keep extraneous light from ruining your picture. It also offers some protection for the front element of your lens.

    The lens hoods are lens specific. It matters not if the camera it fits on is a DSLR, 35 mm SLR or medium format camera
    The lens hood for my 24-85 mm costs $15. The one for my 400 mm f/2.8 costs $500

    That would depend on the lens maker and what they charge for them.
    I agree they’re lens specific so each manufacturer charges a different price.
