Have a steady hand and use adequate light

READ & STUDY the Owner’s Manual. Until you are totally familar with your new camera you should probably leave it in Auto or Program Mode and let the camera set f-stops and shutter speeds. Outdoors you should be fine using ISO 200; indoors you’ll probably want to use ISO 400 or 800.
Good luck.
The options of the 400D are endless, depending on what you’re going to photograpgh! If you read through the manual (really, do it) you’ll be well on your way with the basics. You’ll know about manual focusing (though you can use auto focus), exposure, aperture, whatnot.Read it, you’ll know the basics and play it with from there on out.
The best way to learn after the manual is to take a lot of photos, playing with the settings.
Its very simple.
use auto focus ( when u slightly press the click button it beeps after correct focussing)
use flash
use the camera in auto mode. 95% photos will be good.
use cf memory card. Its a must and u should buy it as it doesnt comes with the camera.
good luck and enjoy
Put it on AUTO and snap away.
Take the manual for down-time reading, but until you know your way around, let the camera do the thinking.
Enjoy your trip.
