I’m looking into making short films but my Canon IXUS now has a shutter problem, so I thought I might as well get a new one. So in my case, which is more worth it? Are HD DSLR cameras that bad?

I have recently purchased a new nikon d90.
It has a great movie feature which IS HD. Also it is a cracking camera and it hasn’t let me down yet.
This may be a bit overpriced for what you’re looking for though.
I agree with what is said above, if it is just for video spend your money on a great hd video camera.
But if you think you’ll change your mind and go into still photography then i strongly recommend the Nikon D90.
If it *is* just for movies, then an HD camcorder will be better.
dSLRs with movie recording ability are ok, but the movie recording is always an after-thought.
Personally I would go for the camcorder option.
