I have seen many posts lately that say that the D40 is a great camera for a DSLR stepping stone per say—- WHY? And if this is true, will i be unhappy with it in the future? Do other models have better settings? What separates this camera from “REAL” DSLR cameras?

What’s The Dslr Equivalent Of The Best Point And Shoot Lens?
I’d like to upgrade to DSLR, but after buying a body (D80) I will only have about $250 to spend on a lens. I’ve read lots of reviews on the cheaper models and they all seem to have lots of negatives, be it slowness, distortion, fringing, CA or softness. So I’m wondering if the cheap SLR lenses are just crap compared to good SLR lenses or if they are crap compared to point and shoot lenses as well.
Also, what would be the cheapest Nikon (Nikkor, Tarmon, Sigma…) lens is that will outperform the best point and shoot lenses like Sony’s Carl Zeiss and Panasonic’s Leica.
How To Clean The Sensor & Mirror In A Dslr?
I have a Sony Alpha 100K DSLR which has a different sort of sensor. I have seen quite a number of products out on the market, including the LensPen, SensorKlear and Eclipse 2 solution along with swabs by Photographic Solutions. I would like to know which is the best for cleaning the sensor, the mirror and any tips you might have on how to approach it. I have read conflicting statements on cleaning the sensor and mirror; some say it is not as difficult as it is made out to be.
