Testing A Canon Xsi Dslr Camera?

I want to buy a canon xsi and the 18-55mm IS lens , but i am new to the world of dslr. I was wondering what should i be looking for specifically on the body or the lenses?

If the price is right and the tests you do look good (look for hot pixels or smudges on the image)
Take a SD card with you so you can actually test the camera. It should have no “dings” on it and the lens should have a nice UV filter on it to protect the lenses front element.
In addition, all the pieces that came with the camera when purchased should be there.
