I know most SLRs are 35mm film cameras, but some SLRs are digital. Whatʻs the difference between them and DSLRs. Which is better? A DSLR or a digital SLR?

SLR= Single Lens Reflex (film)
D-SLR= Digital SLR (memory cards)
There is no better. It depends what you do & what you like.
I loved my film camera, but I will never go back to film as I’m now spoiled with the flexibility of my D300. If you prefer B&W photography, digital doesn’t look the same as film, so many people still stick with Tmax or similar films.
It’s like with anything; you’ll always have an opinion. When you believe that what’s right for you should be right for everyone else, that is when you are wrong.
The term single lens reflex refers to any camera which uses a single lens for viewing and putting the actual image on some substrate, be it film or a digital sensor. There are twin lens reflex systems that use a separate lens for viewing and another for imaging, there are rangefinders that use a simple viewfinder that is separate from the image lens. The SLR method involves the use of a mirror and some time of prism system to reflect the image up to the viewfinder in the proper orientation.
If you shoot with any kind of SLR you’ll notice when you release the shutter the viewfinder blacks out for a split second. That’s the mirror folding up to get out of the way so that the shutter can open and capture the image, then it returns and you are able to view the image again. So the term SLR can be applied to anything from a K1000 to a Hassy HD3, DSLR simply qualifies that the camera uses digital for the recording medium and could be anything from a D40 to the aforementioned HD3 (a $30K camera)
The old single lens reflex cameras are always better than this new crap. i have both and will never get rid of my Pentax ME Super. Go on ebay or somewhere and get a real SLR for way less than retail.
If you buy a real camera you can learn photography the right way. Only then can you judge for yourself what is better. Our opinions are worthless and biased but you may never know that.
People are too into bigger-faster-better, and the Marketing people see you coming..
I have two kodak digicams and they suck at any photos out of the ordinary bright, sunny day ones. The old kodak instamatic cameras were better and just as portable.
All a digicam does is keep you from having to wait for your pics to be developed at Fotomat (remember them???).
SLR = Single Lens Reflex
dSLR = Digital SLR
A (d)SLR camera is a camera that has a mirror in it for viewing the scene.
***
Though a fine camera, the Leica V-Lux 1 is not a dSLR. It is what is commonly known as a “Point & Shoot” and /or “Bridge” camera because The Leica V-Lux 1 does not contain a reflex mirror and the lens cannot be removed.
The D refers to Digital. SLR usually refers to film cameras, you’re correct, the DSLR is simply a Digital SLR.
As time goes on we no doubt will simply go back to the term SLR because, I believe, the word Digital will be assumed.
SLR’s are film cameras, while DSLR’s are digital cameras so you can upload the photos to your computer. What is better is all up to you, whether you prefer taking film pictures or digital pictures.
For me a DSLR is way better than a SLR, cuase you can delete pic if you mess up…still my old SLR still takes awesome photos
