I want a new camera, I dislike mine, it’s a Canon S5 IS Powershot. I want a DSLR, I prefer Canons or Nikon’s, also, one that isn’t over 1000$ would be nice. Advice?

The canon EOS rebel xs is what im saving up for
online its 600$ (as the kit) so it comes with a 18-55 mm lens
ive been researching for months to find the perfect camera, and i have to say (for my needs, and experience) this is the best one for me
i know somebody who has one as well, he loves his.
I would suggest Canon EOS Rebel T1i 15.1 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 3-Inch LCD and EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens
If you can spend more than $1000 I would suggest Nikon D90,semi-pro level camera with Fast – focus, frames per second, and card access,Low noise ISO sensitivity from 200 to 3200.Great picture quality, but if you want to stay under $1000 Canon t1i or Nikon D5000 are good choice.
